#Metoo consequences: has the movement gone too far in Sweden?

String of high profile resignations, cancelled Nobel Prize in Literature 2018, suicide of Swedish Theatre Director – these are the news that shook Sweden, became well known, and were discussed on an international level. The Swedish feminist movement #Metoo has been blamed as much as credited for changes it continues to trigger in the society.

How does the #Metoo shape lives of survivors of sexual harassment and perpetrators of abuse? Is it for good or for worse? What are the new ethical responsibilities of journalists who tend to be actively involved in publishing movement’s flagship stories? And how can the organisations, especially in the concerned creative industries, make sure that the gender equality and human rights are genuinely respected and implemented?

These are the questions that will be explored in detail in a discussion on 14th of May, Monday, from 15:00 to 17:00 at the Swedish Embassy on Didzioji 16, Vilnius.

The keyspeech will be given by our special guest from Sweden:

Hanna Nyberg, Journalist and Leader of the Swedish Public Broadcaster’s SVT Journalists’ Union Journalistförbundet, which unites more than 1100 members. She followed closely #Metoo developments in Sweden and as a leader of Union, she had to deal with harassment cases experienced by journalists.

Hanna’s talk will be followed by the panel discussion which will bring together a few leaders of Lithuanian #Metoo movement too:

Birutė Sabatauskaitė, feminist, Director of Lithuanian Centre for Human Rights

Karolis Vyšniauskas, Lithuanian journalist who with his team at „Nanook” multimedia agency was among first to break stories of #Metoo movement in Lithuania

The panel discussion will be moderated by Džina Donauskaitė from Lithuanian Journalism Centre.

Participants of the event will be greeted by Swedish Ambassador to Lithuania Maria Christina Lundqvist.

Presentation and discussion will be in the English language.
