We invite you to meet Matthew Caruana Galizia – the son of Daphne Caruana Galizia, the journalist who investigated corruption and was killed in Malta in 2017. He is also the director of the fund named after her. Join us at the “Journalists’ Breakfast” held in Vilnius at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library of Lithuania. The guest will discuss the work of the famous journalist, the circumstances of her murder, and the ongoing legal proceedings and search for justice.
The murder of a journalist in Malta shocked journalists and civil society across Europe. It was hard to believe that in the 21st century, such a drastic and irreparable crackdown on a free and critical person is still possible in a European Union country. However, Matthew Caruana Galizia says that the danger remains today not only in Malta but also in other EU countries, which is why the lessons to be learned from such horrific events are extremely important.
The event is being held on the initiative of Matthew Caruana Galizia. He invites Lithuanian journalists, especially those investigating corruption and crime, journalism students, teachers, politicians, civil servants, and civil society—everyone concerned with the safety of journalists in Lithuania and the world—to talk about it.
The “Journalists’ Breakfast” with Matthew Caruana Galizia will be held in Vilnius on Wednesday, June 19, at 1:00 p.m., in the Conference Hall (5th floor) of the Lithuanian National Martynas Mažvydas Library. The duration of the event is approximately 1.5 hours.
The event is free, but prior registration is required: https://forms.gle/u1JnrPzQzat5JJ9A8
The event will be held in English with translation into Lithuanian. Filming and photography will take place during the event.
